SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL PET OWNERS!!
There is an outbreak of Parvovirus in our area.
This is a potentially fatal disease if your
dog has not been vaccinnated already.
The virus is easily passed through contact
with the bodily fluids (vomit or feces) of an
unvaccinnated dog. If your dog does not have a
current vaccinnation, please do not let him/her
come in contact with any other dog.
Get your dog to a Veteranarian and get the
vaccinnation as quickly as you can.
Symptoms do not show until it is almost too
late to treat this disease. If left untreated,
your dog will probably die in a short time.
In addition to the parvovirus outbreak, we have
just been informed that two kittens in the Port Jervis
area have tested positive for RABIES. Rabies is transmitted
through the saliva of an infected animal. Once an animal
or a human shows symptoms of rabies it is
always fatal! The only way to stop the transmission of
this disease is to have your pet vaccinated. If your
pet has never has a rabies vaccination or the shot he had
is out of date - your pet & your family is at risk.
Call your Vet today if your pet needs updating or look in
your local newspaper to see if there is a clinic near you.
** There will be a free rabies clinic on August 5 at
the Morningside Town Pavillion in the Town of Fallsburg.
County & non-County residents are welcome. Hours are
6 PM to 7:30 PM. All pets must be in a carrier or leashed
and be at least 3 months of age. Dogs, cats & ferrets can
get the rabies shot. For more info call: Sullivan Health Dept
845-292-5910 ext 0 or Fallsburg Town Clerk 845-8810 ext 1.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO STOP THE SPREAD OF THESE DISEASES!
On October 3, 2010 we will be hosting our
18th Annual Walk For Our Shelter Pets event.
This year we have decided to do something very special...
we will be contributing a portion of the money received
through Walk pledges to Operation Bagdad Pups
OBP is an effort by the ISPCA to enable
service men and women who are deployed
in the Middle East bring the animals that
have helped them survive the conflict home
when they return to the United States.
There will be constant updates on our BLOG
from now until the actual Walk.

PHOENIX IS READY FOR A HOME!!
It is with great pride (and lots of tears) that
we announce Phoenix is now up for adoption.
Phoenix came to us on the verge of death and
after Veterinary care, good food, plenty of water,
grooming, a warm barn, companionship, fresh air
and a whole lot of love - he is ready for a new home.
You can read about his past by going HERE.
Phoenix is a Standard Bred Gelding about
15 hands high. His overall health is now
good but he cannot be ridden because his
legs are not sound.
Phoenix is a gentle soul who has seen
the worst possible kind of life before
our Humane Society rescued him.
We need a home for him where he can
live his life in peace and love.
Only Special Horse People should
apply because we will check your
references, examine your accommodations
and visit our "special boy" from time to time.
If you have love to give and understand
how remarkable Phoenix is, please call to
find out more at 845-856-3677.
NEWSPAPERS NEEDED!!
We need newspapers for our animal's cages.
Please remove glossy color sections
and drop your papers into the bin on
the right side of the shelter building.
Thanks so much!
Pet Food Needed!
We would be delighted if you could donate
dog and/or cat food in the near future!
We use dry, canned and pouch food
for our pets in residence so any
donation you may be able to give
would help us tremendously.
We are also seeking a household vacuum cleaner
with attachments in great working condition.
Thank you so much!!
Low Cost Spay/Neuter
For Cats AND Dogs!
We are currently offering spay/neuter surgery
for cats & dogs at our shelter's surgical facility.
Please call our shelter staff to learn about our
program, the surgical fee or to make an appointment.
Please get your cat spayed or neutered before they can
reproduce. Help control the pet population explosion
and help your cat have a long and healthy life!
Oh Happy Day!!!
Right now we are able to do a few more
surgeries sooner than we thought possible!
If you call very soon, your pet's surgery
might be scheduled earlier than you think!
So, don't hesitate - take advantage of this
wonderful opportunity to give your pet this
much needed surgery at an affordable fee.

Gently Used Clothing Can Be Dropped Off
If you have gently used clothing and/or
shoes please bring them to our shelter's
drop-off bin located in the parking lot right next to our building.
We get paid for each pound and can make a bit of
extra money for our animals with your donations.
According to the gentleman who picks up the donations,
the contents "are sorted into different categories then
it is shipped to countries like Africa, South America,
Thailand, etc. where the less fortunate cannot walk
into a store and buy new clothing."
Let's help them while helping our animals
with our donations of good sturdy items!
For further info, call us at 845-856-3677.
These are some of the pets that
are in residence at our shelter.
Please call 845-856-3677 (DO NOT E-MAIL) for up to the minute
info and availability on these pets.
There is a small scrollbar
to the right of the pet photos.
