SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL PET OWNERS!!
Updated on July 9, 2011

There are numerous confirmed cases of
rabies in cats in Sussex County, NJ
Sussex borders on our own Orange County
and believe it when we say that this
disease doesn't care about borders!
This is a highly contagious disease that
can go from animal to animal to human.
Rabies is transmitted through
the saliva (spit) of an infected animal.
Once an animal or a human shows
symptoms of rabies it is always fatal!

There have only been a handful of survivors
in decades so those are not good odds.
The only way to stop the transmission of
this disease is to have your pet vaccinated.
If you are feeding feral (wild) cats, please
use extreme caution around them and if you can
do it safely, get them vaccinated as well.
If your pet has an unexplained bite mark, NY law
compels you to report it. If your pet has not
been vaccinated, it has to remain in a secure
quarantine facility for a full six months.
If your pet has never has a rabies vaccination
or the shot he/she had is out of date -
your pet & your family is at risk.

Tell your children to stay away from wild
animals and pets they don't know personally.
Encourage them to tell you if they've been bitten
or scratched or come in contact with a strange
animal in any way at all. This isn't a time
to let your guard down. There is an outbreak
and it could get much worse in our area.

Call your Vet today if your pet needs updating
or look in your local newspaper to see if
there is a clinic near you.

There is an outbreak of Parvovirus in our area.
This is a potentially fatal disease if your
dog has not been vaccinnated already.
The virus is easily passed through contact
with the bodily fluids (vomit or feces)
of an unvaccinnated dog. If your dog does
not have a current vaccinnation, please
do not let him/her come in contact
with any other dog.
Get your dog to a Veteranarian and get
the vaccinnation as quickly as you can.
Symptoms do not show until it is almost
too late to treat this disease. If left
untreated, your dog will probably
die in a short time.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO STOP
THE SPREAD OF THESE DISEASES!

PHOENIX IS READY FOR A HOME!!

It is with great pride (and lots of tears) that
we announce Phoenix is now up for adoption.

Phoenix came to us on the verge of death and
after Veterinary care, good food, plenty of water,
grooming, a warm barn, companionship, fresh air
and a whole lot of love - he is ready for a new home.

You can read about his past by going HERE.

Phoenix is a Standard Bred Gelding about
15 hands high. His overall health is now
good but he cannot be ridden because his
legs are not sound.

Phoenix is a gentle soul who has seen
the worst possible kind of life before
our Humane Society rescued him.
We need a home for him where he can
live his life in peace and love.
Only Special Horse People should
apply because we will check your
references, examine your accommodations
and visit our "special boy" from time to time.

If you have love to give and understand
how remarkable Phoenix is, please call to
find out more at 845-856-3677.

NEWSPAPERS NEEDED!!
We need newspapers for our animal's cages.
Please remove glossy color sections
and drop your papers into the bin on
the right side of the shelter building.
Thanks so much!

Pet Food Needed!

We would be delighted if you could donate
dog and/or cat food in the near future!

We use dry, canned and pouch food
for our pets in residence so any
donation you may be able to give
would help us tremendously.

Thank you so much!!

Spay/Neuter

Low Cost Spay/Neuter
For Cats AND Dogs!

We are currently offering spay/neuter surgery
for cats & dogs at our shelter's surgical facility.

Please call our shelter staff to learn about our
program, the surgical fee or to make an appointment.

Please get your cat spayed or neutered before they can
reproduce. Help control the pet population explosion
and help your cat have a long and healthy life!

Oh Happy Day!!!
Right now we are able to do a few more
surgeries sooner than we thought possible!
If you call very soon, your pet's surgery
might be scheduled earlier than you think!

So, don't hesitate - take advantage of this
wonderful opportunity to give your pet this
much needed surgery at an affordable fee.
